weird kreatures: krampus (in progress)

in an effort to be a little more prolific on here, I'm posting a sketch in progress...I'm planning on layering on some fur pelts, skins, chains, and other murderous/holiday gear.

krampus is about the most inspiring thing I've heard about in the last six months. or maybe ever...thanks chris and sarah.

krampus - a mythical creature who accompanies saint nicholas in various regions of the world during the christmas season. The word krampus originates from the old high german word for claw (krampen). In the alpine regions, krampus is represented by an incubus demon accompanying saint nicholas. krampus acts as an anti–saint nicholas, who, instead of giving gifts to good children, gives warnings and punishments to the bad children.

weird kreatures: the lycanthrope

lycanthrope - a human being who has changed into a wolf, or is capable of assuming the form of a wolf, while retaining human intelligence.

first time drawing without a mechanical pencil in ages...don't really miss it.

I just finished taking a week-long course on 3ds max in cambridge. so much to cover in so little time...thankfully, I was to able to spend a decent portion of class on this holy wyrmslayer. pretty happy with the results.

from concept sketch to finished render/animation.

draw-a-friend

this is a sketch of my good friend and immensely talented artist, chris o'neill...he's constantly going around drawing other people, so I thought it was high time to turn the tables.

I left a lot of the dark areas white in the hopes of future digital color.

good thing I spent all that time memorizing the contours of his face during hangouts!!!

weird kreatures: the goatman

the goatman - a hominid cryptid most commonly associated with maryland in the usa. it is described as a hybrid creature; part man and part goat. some claim it is a relative of bigfoot. its appearance is similar to the satyrs or the god pan of greek mythology, or to the devil.

memorial tattoo/bone deth design: final linework

I finally got around to finishing this design properly.

made some revisons, added some detail, and inked in illustrator. all in all, I think it came out pretty well. I'm sure I could revise and tweak it forever, but that's not good for anyone. the only other thing I'd possibly do is add a little bit of dimensionality/cell shading at shajn's request. not sure exactly what his plan is.

wolf moon

so, some recent work.

the one on top was done in illustrator for my friend alex's company, dance party massacre...it was supposed to be an ode to the photorealistic wolf/bear/eagle montage shirts that originally gained popularity in biker/nature enthusiast/native american pow-wow circles, but have more recently enjoyed an ironic resurgence...I wanted to achieve the same effect, with a slightly different, simplified line quality and a consideration for the fact that it would be printed in only two or three colors...the image below it is the finished product with alex's final touches.

more posts/personal artwork coming soon.
